Progress of the Yanzhou Coal Yulin DMMn Project Construction Author/Source: Huahua Network Coal Chemicals Date: 2020-07-21 Clicks: 228 On July 10, the methanol loading/unloading station and hazardous materials parking lot components of the Yanzhou Coal Yulin DMMn Project, which are under the general contracting of Hualu Technology, completed all contractual tasks and successfully obtained the project interim handover certificate. The successful completion of the project has laid a solid foundation for accelerating the progress of subsequent tasks. The methanol loading/unloading station and the hazardous chemicals parking lot are turnkey projects acquired through further business development by Hualu and Yankai Yulin’s owners, based on their cooperation on the DMMn project. The project consisted of ten main components and involved more than a dozen different specialties. The Hualu project team coordinated design, procurement, and construction activities, strengthened communication with the client, contractors, and suppliers, planned things systematically, and completed the project delivery two months after the contract was signed. Between June and July this year, the Hualu project team accelerated the progress of design and procurement tasks, focusing on carrying out a decisive effort to provide sufficient drawings and materials as the necessary \"ammunition\" for construction. After the overall framework of the system is determined, efforts are made with priority to finalize the detailed design for the various components of the project, and procurement requests are submitted at an early stage for systems such as the process and heating external pipe systems, fire protection systems, water supply and drainage systems, as well as power supply and lighting systems. On the other hand, the construction unit was organized to make coordinated arrangements to ensure that the necessary personnel and equipment were available, thereby completing the construction of roads, underground pipes, lightning protection systems, and embedded sleeves. The project progress was ensured through a range of measures such as optimizing the concrete mix for proper curing, pre-assembling the steel structures before their final placement, and using explosive methods for cleaning pipes. The 500,000 tons per year DMMn (polymethoxymethane) project of Yanzhou Coal Industry Yulin Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. is planned to have a total investment of 4.596 billion yuan. In this project, coal is used to produce polymethoxymethane through methanol synthesis; the key technologies employed include coal gasification, raw gas purification, methanol synthesis, methanol distillation and sulfur recovery, as well as DMMn production. Its main products are methanol and DMMn (full name polymethoxydimethyl ether, an ideal new component for diesel blending, and which can also be used directly as a aromatic-free, environmentally friendly solvent); the by-products include sulfur, liquid oxygen, liquid argon, etc. In June 2019, Chongzhou Coal Industry Yulin Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd. signed a general contract for the design, procurement, and construction of a polymethoxymethane project with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons (100,000 tons per phase), with Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. as the contractor. The Hualu General Contracting Company’s plant with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of DMMn is currently the largest single-unit facility in China for producing DMMn from coal via methanol. This plant utilizes Retarda DMMn technology, and its construction is carried out in two stages: first, a plant with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons is built, and then a plant with an annual capacity of 400,000 tons is constructed. The design and development of this device represent Hualu Technology’s proactive efforts to explore high-value-added products derived from methanol; it will also contribute to the expansion of the methanol industry chain as well as to the transformation and upgrading of the product structure.
