Recently, a meeting for the 30% scale model review of the methanol unit in Yushen Energy Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 500,000 tons/year coal-based ethanol project, which was undertaken as a general contract by Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd., was held in Xi’an. The owner and the methanol plant project team attended this review meeting. During the meeting, the project team conducted thorough discussions and made reasonable optimizations regarding the equipment layout of the methanol plant, focusing on aspects such as fire separation distances, fire access routes, maintenance spaces, and process flows. They also reviewed issues related to the routing of important pipelines and the operation and maintenance of valves, and provided responses to the questions raised by the owner. This 30% model review session laid the foundation for the construction of the synthesis framework, compressor pile foundations, as well as the equipment foundations in the methanol intermediate tank area and distillation area. Next, the project team will further refine and optimize the design to ensure the smooth progress of the project. The 500,000 tons per year coal-based ethanol project of Yanchang Petroleum in Yushen utilizes the dimethyl ether carbonylation technology for ethanol production, which was developed jointly by Yanchang Petroleum and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to produce 500,000 tons of ethanol annually. The project requires an investment of 6.98 billion yuan; it is located in the South Area of Qingshui Industrial Park, Yushen Industrial Park, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, covering an area of 1,365 mu. Completion is scheduled for mid-2021, with full operation and compliance with standards achieved by 2022. The construction scope includes a methanol complex (units such as coal unloading and storage, gasification unit, shift converter unit, purification unit, gas separation unit, methanol production unit, sulfur treatment unit, etc.), an ethanol plant (units such as dimethyl ether production, carbonylation, hydrogenation, separation, compression, heating furnaces, refrigeration stations, etc.), as well as new construction for utility systems and auxiliary facilities; the design capacity is 1.22 million tons of coal to be converted per year.
