On the morning of November 20, Rongxin Chemical held a meeting to conduct the environmental protection completion inspection for the project involving the production of 400,000 tons of coal-based ethylene glycol per year and its associated facilities. A team of 5 members from the inspection group went to the production sites, including a 4,000-ton gasification unit, a sewage treatment plant, and a salt separation and crystallization facility, for on-site inspections. Carefully listened to the report presented by Ji Wenpu, Secretary of the General Party Branch and Executive Director, on matters such as sewage treatment, zero discharge of industrial wastewater, the utilization and disposal of solid waste, and investments in environmental protection. The review team acknowledged and approved the stable operation of the environmental protection facilities at Rongxin Chemical, as well as its advanced environmental protection concepts; it also offered suggestions for making improvements to the details of the \"Environmental Protection Completion Acceptance Report for the Project with an Annual Production Capacity of 40 Tons of Coal-Based Ethylene Glycol and Related Facilities.\" After discussion, the review panel concluded that the design, construction, and commissioning of this project meet all the requirements stipulated in the Regulations on Environmental Protection Management for Construction Projects, and unanimously agreed that the environmental protection aspects of the second-phase project have passed the completion inspection.
Another breakthrough in multi-nozzle opposed gasification technology: A super-large gasification unit with a capacity of 4,000 tons is under construction. 2018-09-28 11:22. As learned from the 6th International Symposium on the Promotion and Application of Multi-Nozzle Opposed Gasification Technology held recently in Hefei, the super-large water-coal slurry gasification unit with a capacity of 4,000 tons, as well as the 2,000-ton waste boiler-cooling type gasification unit, developed jointly by Yankuang Group and East China University of Science and Technology, have entered the stage of practical implementation. These developments are at the forefront of gasification technology advancements both domestically and internationally, offering new options for the technical selection in coal chemical projects. They can further improve gasification efficiency and contribute to energy conservation and emission reduction. According to Meng Xiangjun, the chief engineer of Yankuang Group Co., Ltd., through the joint efforts of Shandong Yankuang Guotuo Technology Engineering Co., Ltd. and the Clean Coal Research Institute at East China University of Science and Technology, the multi-nozzle gasification technology has been successfully transferred to 57 projects both domestically and internationally via technology licensing. A total of 158 gasification units have been built as a result, and this technology has become one of the preferred options for coal chemical enterprises. Professor Guang Suo from East China University of Science and Technology noted that following the construction and operation of industrial demonstration units for water-coal slurry gasification with capacities of 1,000 tons, 2,000 tons, and 3,000 tons, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Yankuang Group and East China University of Science and Technology jointly undertook a key research and development project titled \"Industrial demonstration of ultra-large-scale water-coal slurry gasification units capable of processing 4,000 tons of coal per day per furnace.\" This is currently the water-coal slurry gasification furnace with the highest processing capacity planned to be built in the world, and its construction is underway at Yankuang Inner Mongolia Rongxin Chemical Co., Ltd. and Inner Mongolia HuiNeng Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. Xie Kechang, former vice president and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said at the meeting that he hopes for further innovation in this technology; for example, considering direct gasification of coal at the mine site, combined with the construction of gasification islands, to transport the synthesized gas to enterprises in order to improve gasification efficiency. At the same time, it is hoped that the coal gasification industry will move toward modernization, larger scale operations, combined production processes, the use of multiple feedstocks, and standardization. By integrating technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, intelligent and green coal chemical industries can be developed. Li Yongwu, former president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, emphasized that the various indicators of the multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification technology are at the world’s leading level. It is hoped that in the future, China’s coal gasification technology will see further progress in terms of larger-scale installations, with enhanced basic research, as well as a better understanding of the mechanisms by which pollutants are transported and transformed during the coal gasification process. Gu Zongqin, director of the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Planning Institute, stated that the coal chemical industry should make significant efforts to improve its capabilities in terms of technical equipment. In the field of coal gasification, key breakthroughs should be made in technologies and equipment such as 8.7 MPa large-scale water-coal slurry gasification, large-scale dry coal powder gasification, and gasifier waste heat recovery systems.
The 1.8 million tons per year coal-to-methanol and converted olefins project of Rongxin Chemical, operated by Yanzhou Coal Industry Ordos Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., had its foundation laid on March 17, 2010, with construction beginning in October. Covering an area of approximately 1,300 mu, this project is a pilot project for full-process quality management. It was responsible for carrying out two “863” research projects: “Construction and operation of an ultra-large-scale gasification facility capable of processing 3,000 tons of coal per day” and “Process integration optimization and technical-economic analysis for ultra-large-scale gasification technologies handling 3,000 tons of coal per day”. In July 2014, the first phase of Rongxin Chemical’s methanol production facility in Yankuang Ordos Energy Chemicals was completed, enabling the safe and successful production of qualified methanol products. The methanol production system of this project utilizes technology and equipment from German company Linde and British company David, as well as Yankuang’s proprietary multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry pressurized gasification technology; it is one of the largest, most advanced in terms of equipment, and highest in technological content single-system production facilities in China at present. Phase 2 launched in May 2017 a co-production project for 400,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol and 300,000 tons per year of polyoxymethylenemethane from coal. Once the project is in operation, it will be capable of producing 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year, 300,000 tons of polymethoxymethane per year, 19,000 tons of sulfur as a by-product per year, 12,000 tons of dimethyl carbonate as a by-product per year, 10,000 tons of ethanol as a by-product per year, and 6,000 tons of mixed alcohols as a by-product per year. At present, the project has entered the full-scale equipment installation phase. The project is located in the Sanyangliang Industrial Park in Dalat Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. With a total budget investment of 7.68 billion yuan, it uses coal as raw material and the four-nozzle gasification technology developed by East China University of Science and Technology to produce CO and H2 required for ethylene glycol production, as well as syngas needed for methanol synthesis. Ethylene glycol is synthesized through an indirect method, while DMMn is synthesized indirectly from methanol. For the 400,000-ton ethylene glycol project, EPC general contract agreements were signed with China Fifth Ring Engineering Co., Ltd. and Huashuo Technology Co., Ltd.
