China’s largest carbon dioxide capture project has entered the commissioning phase Author/Source: Coal-based New Materials Date: 2021-03-30 Clicks: 55 Recently, China’s largest full-scale demonstration project for carbon dioxide capture and storage with an annual capacity of 150,000 tons (referred to as the CCS demonstration project) successfully received power at the Jinjie Power Plant of Guohua Power, under the **Energy Group. This marks the completion of the installation work on this project, which has now entered the commissioning phase. This project represents Guohua Power’s innovative efforts in the areas of energy conservation, emission reduction, and low-carbon development. It was designated as a key construction project in Shaanxi Province for 2018, as well as a major scientific and technological innovation project for the group company. Additionally, it received support from the **Key R&D Program for ‘High-performance absorbents/adsorbent materials and technologies for CO capture’**. It is reported that once the CCS demonstration project comes online, it will be able to achieve a carbon dioxide capture rate of over 90%, a carbon dioxide concentration of over 99%, and a heat consumption for regenerating the absorbent of less than 2.4 GJ per ton of CO2. Its overall performance indicators are at the international leading level, providing technical support for large-scale carbon capture in coal-fired power plants in China as well as for achieving the carbon reduction targets set out in the Paris Agreement. This technology is applied in large-scale industrial production, bringing significant environmental and social benefits.
