Recently, Shandong Energy Xinjiang Nenghua Coal Chemical Company received approval from the Development and Reform Commission of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region to establish an autonomous region engineering research center, to be named the “Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Coal Gasification Engineering Research Center”. This center will focus on developing new coal gasification technologies and coal water slurry additives, taking into account the characteristics of coal in Xinjiang. This is the second autonomous-region-level research platform established by the company, following its Enterprise Technology Center. In recent years, driven by the need for environmental protection, energy conservation, and sustainable development, the clean utilization of coal has been identified as an important area within the strategic emerging industries of the future. Gasification technologies such as multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasification and the Texaco gasification process have thus emerged. For a long time, the development of coal chemical industry in Xinjiang has been constrained by the special properties of the coal, as well as numerous technical bottlenecks; issues related to the development of coal gasification projects remain unresolved. As the first multi-product, integrated, circular coal chemical project launched by the former Yankuang Group in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, this company has, since its commissioning, adhered to the principle that technology is the primary driving force for production. Focusing on the efficient utilization of coal resources in the Jundong area of Xinjiang, as well as ensuring the safe, stable, and long-term operation of the production systems, it has carried out a series of research and development efforts, technical improvements, and optimizations, thereby successfully resolving a number of critical challenges. In recent years, the company has led 12 key scientific and technological innovation projects, filed 23 patents—including 6 invention patents and 16 utility model patents—published over 100 technical papers, and achieved 5 provincial and ministerial-level evaluations of its research results. The establishment of the Gasification Engineering Research Center in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region signifies that the company’s research achievements and capabilities in the field of gasification have been widely recognized within the region. Next, leveraging its technical strengths, the company will help address the existing technical bottlenecks and challenges in Xinjiang’s coal gasification industry, promote technology transfer, accelerate talent development, and fulfill its role in the advancement of Xinjiang’s coal chemical industry.
