The first “Major Industrial Innovation Platform for Ammonia-Hydrogen Energy” in China has been established in Fujian. Author/Source: PVH2.com; Date: December 31, 2021; Page views: 27. On the morning of December 10, Fuzhou University, Beijing Sanju Environmental Protection New Materials Co., Ltd., and Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd. held a signing ceremony for strategic cooperation on major green energy projects in Fuzhou. They established a joint venture to create the country’s first “Major Industrial Innovation Platform for Ammonia-Hydrogen Energy”. The parties will engage in in-depth cooperation regarding key technologies related to ammonia-hydrogen green energy, thereby accelerating the commercialization of technological achievements. Adhering to the principle of \"win-win cooperation,\" the three parties focus on the key challenges hindering the development of hydrogen energy industry in our country. By integrating efforts from industry, academia, research institutions, and practical applications, they aim to create a top-tier innovation team for the \"ammonia-hydrogen\" energy sector. Together, they will establish an engineering research center for ammonia industry catalysis, set up joint ventures to form high-tech enterprises, and develop a trillion-dollar industrial chain that combines green ammonia production, hydrogen energy, and renewable energy sources. This is of great significance for ensuring energy security and sustainable socioeconomic development. Subsequently, signing ceremonies were held for the strategic cooperation framework agreement between Fuzhou University and Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd., the strategic cooperation framework agreement on major industrial projects among Fuzhou University, Beijing Sanju Environmental Protection New Materials Co., Ltd., and Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd., as well as the strategic investment cooperation agreement among Fuzhou University, Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd., and Beijing Sanju Environmental Protection New Materials Co., Ltd. The attending leaders and guests witnessed these signing ceremonies. It is reported that Fuzhou University, Sanju Environmental Protection Company, and Zijin Company plan to establish a joint venture, with Zijin Company intending to contribute 200 million yuan in cash, while Fuzhou University and Beijing Sanju Environmental Protection Company will contribute intellectual property worth approximately 66.67 million yuan ; After its establishment, the new company will invest around 30 million yuan to purchase technical services from Fuzhou University. “The \"ammonia-hydrogen\" energy source is an important medium for facilitating the large-scale use of renewable energy and the development of the hydrogen industry; it is also a key approach to the transformation and upgrading of the energy sector in the new era. It holds great significance for China’s achievement of its goals of \"reaching carbon peak and achieving carbon neutrality.\" The major technical research efforts related to the \"ammonia-hydrogen\" green energy sector in this collaboration are centered around the **Engineering Research Center for Fertilizer Catalysts** at Fuzhou University. This center is the only **level innovation platform in China’s ammonia industry focused on catalysis that encompasses both basic research and industrial application capabilities. Since its establishment in 1996 by Academician Wei Keming, it has been dedicated to research on the efficient synthesis of ammonia as well as its value-added utilization. The team, in collaboration with companies such as Sanmu Environmental Protection, developed the world’s first set of safe, efficient, and low-energy-consuming technologies for ammonia synthesis, which were successfully applied in industrial plants capable of producing 200,000 tons of ammonia per year. This breakthrough ended a nearly 30-year technological monopoly held by foreign countries. New types of low-temperature catalysts were also created, overcoming the key technical barriers in the \"ammonia-hydrogen\" energy cycle and laying a solid foundation for the development of an industry based on this type of energy source. It is reported that this strategic partnership aims to further implement the spirit of the 11th Fujian Provincial Party Congress, accelerate the development of a green economy, and help achieve the \"dual carbon\" goals. Within the broader context of nationwide efforts to promote the development of the hydrogen energy industry, by leveraging Fujian Province’s advantages in ecological civilization construction and its policy framework that encourages innovative approaches, and by making use of Fuzhou University’s leadership in synthetic ammonia production and ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion catalysis technologies, as well as Zijin Mining Group’s strengths in strategic metal reserves, industrialization capabilities, corporate brand recognition, and other related advantages, it is possible to establish China’s first “major industrial innovation platform for ammonia-hydrogen energy” in our province. This will enable the development of a “zero-carbon circular” economic model that takes into account the characteristics of China’s energy structure, involving renewable energy-based hydrogen production, clean and efficient synthetic ammonia production, safe and cost-effective storage and transportation of ammonia and hydrogen. Such an approach will help accelerate the growth of the hydrogen energy industry in our province, and foster the development of a trillion-yuan-scale industrial chain that integrates green ammonia production, hydrogen energy production, and renewable energy industries. This is of great significance for ensuring energy security and sustainable socioeconomic development.
