The work report of Shanxi Province proposes to develop the energy-saving and new energy vehicle industry into a sector worth tens of billions of yuan. The Jinzhong Municipal Party Committee has called for making every effort to develop the new energy vehicle industry chain. The new energy vehicle industry is the top of the 8 emerging industry clusters that Jinzhong focuses on developing; it represents the sector with the longest industrial chain, the largest scale, and the greatest variety within Shanxi Province’s automotive industry. Driven by the five leading enterprises of Geely, Meijin, Paul, Snard, and AVIC Lantian, Jinzhong City has developed a cluster of 60 enterprises engaged in component production and related activities, achieving a production capacity of 100,000 passenger vehicles, 20,000 special-purpose vehicles, and 5,000 commercial vehicles. In 2021, the output value of the automobile industrial park exceeded 15 billion yuan. Next, we will vigorously implement the “1221” strategic initiative, and by leveraging the Jinzhong New Energy Vehicle Industrial Park, we will plan to establish a “Shanxi Methanol Economy Demonstration Zone”. Methanol is low-carbon, oxygen-rich and hydrogen-rich; it is liquid hydrogen and a clean energy source. The methanol economy is also known as the liquid sunlight economy. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, our strategic goal is to establish a first-class methanol industry cluster in China, produce advanced methanol engines and methanol-powered vehicles, develop a green methanol production and refueling infrastructure, and strive to create an economic ecosystem related to methanol worth hundreds of billions, thereby upgrading the new energy vehicle industry cluster. At present, we are seizing the strategic opportunities presented by Geely’s next-generation new energy intelligent luxury heavy trucks (the Longyuan Xinghan H methanol-assisted heavy truck) as well as the initiative to make Jinzhong a pilot city for building a strong transportation sector. Adhering to the strategy of strengthening leading enterprises, extending industrial chains, and establishing industrial clusters, we have formed a task force headed by the mayor to oversee these initiatives. A special fund of 1 billion yuan has been set up for the development of the new energy vehicle industry. Construction has begun on the Geely G3 methanol-assisted heavy truck production facility, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units and an output value of 40 billion yuan; the first phase of this project, involving the renovation of production lines to enable an annual output of 5,000 units, is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2022. We aim to take the lead in the development of advanced manufacturing industries within the central Shanxi urban cluster and create new landmarks in this field.
