Progress of the Coal-to-Hydrogen Project at Shanxi Pengwan Hydrogen Port. Author/Source: China National Chemical Corporation Ninth Company. Date: 2022-04-08. Clicks: 13. The coal-to-hydrogen project at Shanxi Pengwan Hydrogen Port is now in its final stage of development. To date, the civil engineering works for major facilities such as the central control room, 35kv substation, and circulating water cooling towers have entered the final stages of completion, while the installation work for facilities such as the desulfurization unit, reformer, converter, and compressor buildings is now in full swing in its final phase. The Pengwan Hydrogen Port project, which aims to produce 200,000 tons of hydrogen per year from coke oven gas, has a total investment of 20 billion yuan. It will be built in three phases, and once fully operational, it will be able to generate an annual output value of 10 billion yuan. As the lowest-cost and most efficient approach to hydrogen production on a global scale, this project adopts a hydrogen production method that relies primarily on coke oven gas, with coal-based hydrogen production serving as a supplementary source. It is planned to develop an integrated facility that covers hydrogen production, storage, refueling, transportation, as well as related industries and research and development efforts, with the goal of turning Pengwan Hydrogen Port into a influential demonstration site for the hydrogen industry in Shanxi and across the country.
