The LNG and synthetic ammonia production project using coke oven gas from Huayuan Gas in Hejin City has successfully begun producing products. Author/Source: Southwest Chemical Engineering Company. Date: April 10, 2022. Clicks: 13. Recently, the 50,000 Nm3/h coke oven gas-to-LNG and synthetic ammonia production project developed by Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Southwest Institute”) has seen its entire process chain operational; all technical parameters meet the design requirements, and LNG as well as liquid ammonia have been successfully produced. This project utilizes the gas purification-separation-methanation technology owned by the Southwest Research Institute, which enables multi-stage separation and reallocation of coke oven gas to achieve co-production of LNG and liquid ammonia. Once put into operation, this project will be able to process 400 million Nm3 of coke oven gas per year, produce 80,000 tons of LNG annually, and generate 60,000 tons of liquid ammonia per year. It will also help reduce the emission of pollutants such as tar, naphthalene, sulfur, and ammonia, offering significant economic, environmental, and social benefits. This project is the first LNG plant powered by coke oven gas to come online since the integration of the Southwest Research Institute; it successfully combines the advanced technical skills and engineering capabilities of the former Sichuan Tianyi Technology Co., Ltd. and the former Southwest Chemical Engineering Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., thereby ensuring high quality and excellence in the design of this project. The successful one-time commissioning of this device further verifies the stability and reliability of our company’s technologies for the methanization of coke oven gas, as well as its methanization catalysts, specialized adsorbents, and dedicated equipment; it also strengthens our company’s leading position in the field of comprehensive utilization of coke oven gas. The Southwest Research Institute possesses domestically leading and internationally advanced technologies for gas purification, separation, and methanation, which are widely applied to various industrial exhaust gases such as coking gas and gas produced from coal. These technologies contribute to the development of a circular economy and sustainable development, helping to achieve the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Since 2011, the Southwest Research Institute has designed and built over 20 industrial plants for converting coke oven gas into SNG/CNG/LNG. The Hebei Zhongxiang 120,000 Nm3/h coke oven gas to LNG combined ammonia production plant is currently the largest of its kind in China for converting coke oven gas into LNG. It was built by our company under an EPCM contract, and we provided the core catalysts; it has been operating steadily for 5 years. The Qian’an Jiujiang 100,000 Nm3/h coke oven gas to LNG conversion plant is an industrial demonstration facility for the CO2 utilization project under the **863 Science and Technology Program. In 2015, it was awarded the “First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation” as well as the “17th China Patent Excellence Award”. Our company was responsible for the design of this plant, and we provided the core equipment and catalysts; it has been operating steadily for 6 years now.
