It is reported that the SIS system currently in use in the company’s first-phase ammonia synthesis plant has been in operation for 12 years; its performance has declined. The key issue is that this SIS does not have the capability to process analog signals – all such signals are first processed by the DCS before being sent to the SIS for logical processing, which does not meet the requirements regarding the independence of the SIS system.
