Aerospace Powder Gasification and Shell’s Powder Gasification Technology: Jiu Tai’s 1 million-ton ethylene glycol production project in Inner Mongolia goes into operation. Jiu Tai New Materials Co., Ltd.’s project for producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year has officially started trial production. The project entered the preparatory phase for trial production in May 2022. On October 12, 2022, the gasifier was successfully fed with materials for the first time; on the 16th, the entire production process was completed. On the 20th, the first batch of products was exported. Inner Mongolia Joutai New Materials Co., Ltd. was established in March 2017 and is located in the Tuoketuo Industrial Park in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia. The company covers a total area of 2,565 mu, with a total investment of 11.8 billion yuan. The construction scale of the company’s first-phase project is an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene glycol. The project utilizes aerospace powder gasification and Shell’s powder gasification technologies, low-temperature methanol washing technology, as well as the world-leading formaldehyde hydroxycarboxylation technology provided by Johnson Matthey Davy Technologies Limited to produce ethylene glycol. On October 6, the core inlet compressor for the syngas production unit in Inner Mongolia Jiu Tai New Materials Co., Ltd.’s project aimed at producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year, completed its first successful trial run. On September 29, Inner Mongolia Jiutai New Materials Co., Ltd. successfully ignited the torch for its project to produce 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year, marking a crucial step toward the project’s official commissioning. On May 10, the power unit area of Inner Mongolia Jiu Tai New Materials Co., Ltd.’s project for producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year was successfully started up, and the project officially entered the preparatory phase for trial production. Project Overview: The 1 million-ton per year ethylene glycol production project of Inner Mongolia Jutai New Materials Co., Ltd. is the largest project of its kind in the world that uses the hydroxymethylation process to produce ethylene glycol. In line with the development strategy focused on new materials, new energy sources, and biodegradable products, this project was initiated under the leadership of the Jutai Group, and it employs the internationally advanced hydroxymethylation process using formaldehyde, developed by Davy Company, to produce ethylene glycol. Inner Mongolia Jutai New Materials Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Jutai Group. It was registered in March 2017, covers an area of 2,565 mu in total, and has a total investment of 13.3 billion yuan. Among them, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (AP) of the United States is investing 4.8 billion yuan to construct areas related to air separation and gasification. The capacity of the first-phase project is 1 million tons per year of ethylene glycol production. The project utilizes aerospace powder gasification and Shell’s gasification technologies, low-temperature methanol washing technology, as well as the world-leading formic acid hydrocarboxylation technology from Davy Company to produce ethylene glycol. This process represents the world’s first large-scale industrial installation, boasting advantages such as advanced technology, energy and environmental conservation, and a high conversion rate. The project construction period is 3 years; commissioning is scheduled for 2020, with full operation planned for 2021. Upon completion of production, it is expected to achieve annual sales of 10.6 billion yuan, with profits and taxes totaling 3.66 billion yuan.
