The world’s largest BDO integrated production facility has been completed and put into operation! Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry Information Network Date: 2022-11-26 Clicks: 24 On November 24, the second-phase project of Dongjing Bio-Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Dongjing Bio”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Inner Mongolia Dongyuan Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Dongyuan Tech”), which has an annual production capacity of 280,000 tons of BDO, was successfully commissioned. High-quality product was produced, and after a day of tuning, the purity reached 99.91%. This marks Dongyuan Tech as the world’s largest integrated BDO production facility with an annual production capacity of 380,000 tons of BDO. The Dongjing Bio project, with an annual production capacity of 280,000 tons of BDO, has a total investment of 2.939 billion yuan. Its production is continuous and stable, the degree of automation is high, and the product quality ranks among the best in the global industry. Key equipment has successfully been replaced with domestic brands instead of imported ones, achieving localization and overcoming the problem of foreign brands holding back the development of key BDO production equipment. The project was general contracted by Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as BPPEC). Construction commenced on-site on May 20, 2021, and the project was successfully handed over on August 1, 2022. On November 24, 2022, it reached full production capacity, yielding premium-grade BDO products with a purity of ≥99.91%, thus setting the best quality record in the history of the BDO industry. This project utilizes **Guanda’s improved alkyne-aldehyde method, offering advantages such as high product quality and stable continuous production. The project set new records for its category, including the shortest construction period, the fastest time to start production, and the quickest time to achieve top-quality standards. The commissioning of the integrated project with an annual production capacity of 380,000 tons of BDO has further strengthened Dongyuan Technology’s industrial structure, which relies on both new materials and new energy sectors. The construction of the company’s downstream industrial chain is advancing rapidly; the first phase of the project, with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons of γ-butyrolactone, has already started operation with 100,000 tons in production, while the preparatory work for the second phase, also with a capacity of 100,000 tons, is underway ; Construction work on the project to produce 200,000 tons of biodegradable polyester (PBS/PBAT) per year is being accelerated. As the only BDO manufacturing enterprise in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region that is already in operation, Dongyuan Technology has been adhering to the concept of sustainable development featuring \"greenness, low carbon, and circularity.\" Focusing on the acetylene chemical industry and the field of new degradable plastic materials, it is committed to building a world-leading integrated BDO industrial base. Project Review
On May 20, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony for the project to produce 200,000 tons per year of BDO at Inner Mongolia Dongjing Bio-Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., which was under the general contracting of Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd., was held within the premises of Inner Mongolia Dongyuan Technology Co., Ltd. This marked the official start of construction for this project. The total investment in the project is 2.94 billion yuan, and **Guanda technology** was employed to achieve continuous BDO production. Leveraging local resources such as lime, electricity, and coal, the project has established an integrated circular economy industry development model centered on 1,4-butanediol (BDO) as the key component. Upon completion of the project, Dongyuan Technology’s maximum production capacity for 1,4-butanediol will reach 400,000 tons, with an annual output value of 13 billion yuan. On July 13, the first public announcement regarding the environmental impact assessment for the capacity expansion project of Inner Mongolia Dongjing Bio-Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., which aims to increase production capacity to 200,000 tons per year of 1,4-butanediol, was released. It is worth noting that the original planned production capacity for this project was 200,000 tons of BDO per year; after the modification, it has been increased to 280,000 tons per year. Furthermore, the project is nearing completion, and this will further increase the supply of BDO in the market. The parent company of Dongjing Biology, Inner Mongolia Dongyuan Technology Co., Ltd., has established the only industrial framework in the global BDO industry that features a complete supply chain across all stages of production, resulting in the lowest production costs worldwide. Established in December 2008, Inner Mongolia Dongyuan Technology Co., Ltd. is a large-scale private enterprise integrating five major sectors: coal, power, chemicals, new materials, and catering. Currently, it employs over 4,000 people. The company houses the Aerospace Dongyuan Innovation and Development Research Institute, the Polymer Materials Science Research Institute, and the Chemical New Materials Research Institute. It also operates an Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region-level enterprise research and development center as well as an engineering research center. A postdoctoral research station and a graduate internship base are currently under construction. The company has been granted 11 patents; its main products, such as BDO and PBS, have filled gaps in Inner Mongolia’s chemical industry. The company’s project to produce 5,000 tons per year of integrated products such as acetylene derived from coal via hydrogen plasma has revolutionized traditional acetylene production processes and represents a cutting-edge innovation in China.
