The preliminary design for the 500,000-ton synthetic ammonia production facility and related downstream projects as part of Yunnan Jiehua’s relocation and transformation initiative has begun! Author/Source: Gasification World Date: 2022-12-20 Clicks: 36 On December 7, the first meeting regarding the basic design work for the 500,000-ton synthetic ammonia production facility and related downstream projects as part of the transformation and upgrading initiative for Jiehua was held via video conference. Eight organizations were invited to attend this meeting, including Yunnan Coal Chemical Group, Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd., Hualu Engineering Company and Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., China Aerospace Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd., China Fifth Ring Engineering Co., Ltd., Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd., and Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. The representative of the Jiehua Chemical Branch, namely Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd., presided over this meeting. Yu Xiang, deputy chief engineer of Yunnan Coal (Coal Chemistry) Group; Wang Zhaowen, Party secretary and general manager of Jiehua Clean Energy Company; Liu Zhiyun from the company’s Technology Development Department; and Ma Wenliang, deputy general manager of the Jiehua Branch – along with other project-related leaders and technical professionals – attended the meeting. At the meeting, Yu Xiang delivered a speech. Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. presented the detailed provisions of the \"Unified Regulations for Basic Design Projects\" related to the relocation and transformation of the chemical industry. Yunmei (Coal Chemicals) Group, Jiehua Clean Energy Company, Jiehua Branch, the General Design Institute, and the Plant Design Institute discussed the relevant aspects of these regulations and reached a consensus. Through this meeting, various design institutes have been closely linked with Jiehua, establishing unified goals, action guidelines, and work standards, thereby laying a foundation for the subsequent design work. As the preliminary design progresses, the construction of the relocation project will proceed at full speed. Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd. is carrying out relocation and transformation efforts to upgrade its facilities, with the construction of a plant capable of producing 500,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and related products. Nature of the project: new construction. Location: Chemical Industry Park, Kaiyuan City, Yunnan Province. Components of the project include production units for gasification, purification (including reforming, low-temperature methanol washing, liquid nitrogen washing, and sulfur recovery), synthetic ammonia production, urea production, nitric acid production, *ao acid an production, high-tower water-soluble compound fertilizers, dimethyl carbonate production, and air separation processes. Additionally, there are supporting storage and transportation systems, utility facilities (including heating boilers provided by the park), as well as auxiliary facilities for production and daily use. Product introduction: The main products and by-products include polyenergetic urea, nitric acid, liquid **, water-soluble urea compound fertilizer, nitro-based water-soluble compound fertilizer, ammonia water, dimethyl carbonate, sulfur, *ao acid an, etc. Project Review: On July 20, 2022, Yunnan Coal Industry (Yunnan Coal Chemicals) Group Co., Ltd., Aerospace Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd., Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd., Jiehua Chemical Branch, and the People’s Government of Kaiyuan City held a special meeting in Conference Room 1112 of Yunnan Coal (Coal Chemicals) Group to discuss matters related to the relocation, transformation, and development of Jiehua’s facilities for the production of 500,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and related downstream projects. On April 7, 2022, the project underwent the first public announcement regarding environmental impact assessment participation. China Global Engineering Co., Ltd. is responsible for the environmental impact assessment of this project. On March 16, a delegation of 6 people led by Sun Qingjun, General Manager of Aerospace Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd./Aerospace Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd., and Zhao Hui, Deputy Chief Engineer of Aerospace Engineering, visited the Jiehua Chemical Branch of Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd. for inspections and exchanges, and held a discussion meeting. The two sides exchanged information regarding the relocation and upgrading of Jiehua’s facilities to build a plant capable of producing 500,000 tons of synthetic ammonia as well as related downstream projects, and discussed ways in which they could further deepen their cooperation for mutual benefit. The relocation, transformation and upgrading project of Jiehua Branch is planned to be built in the Chemical Industry Park in Kaiyuan City, Yunnan Province. To optimize and upgrade the 500,000 tons per year ammonia synthesis plant and its downstream products, upgrades will be carried out to build a 1.8 million tons per year methanol plant, as well as facilities for producing carbon-based new materials from methanol. The main products and downstream products include 1.8 million tons per year of methanol and related carbon-based new materials, as well as 500,000 tons per year of liquid ammonia and downstream products such as nitric acid, *ao acid an, nitro fertilizers, urea, concentrated nitric acid, and calcium nitrate. The project is expected to require an investment of 20 billion yuan, with an annual coal consumption of around 7.5 million tons; the facility will cover an area of 250 hectares. In November 2020, the Jiehua Chemical Branch of Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd. signed a contract with Donghua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. for the preparation of a feasibility study report on a large-scale coal chemical project aimed at relocation, transformation, and upgrading; thus, the work on preparing the project’s feasibility study report was officially launched. Air Products (China) Investment Co., Ltd. intends to invest in, construct, and own certain units of the facility under this project, and to provide operational services for the installed equipment. Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd. was formerly the Jiehua PLA Fertilizer Factory located in Kunming, which was established in 1958; in 2002, the company was restructured into Yunnan Jiehua Group Co., Ltd. In 2009, in accordance with the provisions of the \"Agreement on the Restructuring and Capital Increase of Yunnan Jiehua Group Co., Ltd.\" as well as the \"Memorandum\" between Coal Chemical Group and Three Gorges Group, the original Yunnan Jiehua Group Co., Ltd. was restructured through methods such as equity transfers and acquisitions, so that it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yunnan Coal Chemical Group Co., Ltd. After injecting capital into the company in cash, Coal Chemical Group and Three Gorges Group established Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd.; the company was officially founded on July 18, 2009, with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan. The former Kunming Chemical Fertilizer Factory of the People’s Liberation Army was the first medium-sized nitrogen fertilizer manufacturer on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It was also one of the earliest enterprises in China to use lignite as raw material and the Lurgi pressure swing gasification process to produce synthetic ammonia. After more than 50 years of development, Xiehua Clean Energy Company now possesses cutting-edge YM pressurized gasification technology that is leading in the country, as well as numerous proprietary core technology patents. Its comprehensive technology for the development and utilization of lignite has reached an advanced level in China. Jiehua Clean Energy Company has one branch and two subsidiaries. That is: Jiehua Chemical Branch (production site in Kaiyuan City, Honghe Prefecture), Yunnan Xianfeng Coal Industry Development Co., Ltd.
