According to Sinochem News, on November 25, the CO2 washing tower, a key piece of equipment for the Shenhua Baotou coal-to-olefins upgrade demonstration project, which was manufactured by the Suzhou branch of China National Chemical Equipment Corporation, was successfully shipped and delivered. The successful manufacture of this washing tower overcame various technical challenges associated with ultra-large-diameter, ultra-thin stainless steel containers, and provided experience for similar equipment. It is understood that the total investment planned for the second phase of the Shenhua Baotou project is 17.15 billion yuan, with a production capacity of 2 million tons of methanol and 750,000 tons of polyolefins per year. By planning its development in conjunction with new energy sources, this project aims to achieve deep integration between coal chemical processing and green electricity, green hydrogen, and green oxygen. Leveraging its expertise in the manufacturing of large-scale pressure vessels, the Suzhou company took on the task of producing the two key equipment components for the renewable solvent and resource recovery system in this project: the methanol/water separation tower and the CO2 washing tower. The two units serve as the \"heart\" of the CO2 capture and purification process; they have complex structures, stringent material requirements and technical specifications, and the quality of their manufacture determines the efficiency of the project as well as its environmental benefits. At the beginning of the project, it faced three major challenges: a tight deadline, a heavy workload, and complex technical requirements. There were only 180 days left from the time the task was assigned until the contract was delivered, and both devices represented significant challenges in the field of pressure vessels. To address the challenges posed by the ultra-large diameter, ultra-thin wall thickness of CO2 scrubber towers, and the tendency for deformation during welding, the company developed an innovative process that combines \"segmental pre-deformation control + symmetric welding + real-time stress monitoring\". This approach enables the welding deformation to be kept within 3 millimeters, which is better than the **standard requirements. When installing trays that require millimeter-level precision, the company uses point-by-point measurement to ensure accurate installation ; To tackle complex welding tasks, the innovative approach of \"modular pre-welding and separate assembly\" was adopted, reducing the welding time for accessories by 30% while achieving a 100% qualification rate.
