Recently, the domestic PEM electrolysis water-splitting hydrogen production system as part of the second phase of the Yokoyama Coal and Electricity Company’s project successfully completed 168 hours of continuous full-load operation. The equipment operated stably overall, and all key performance indicators such as hydrogen purity and dew point met the design specifications; thus, the facility has been put into formal operation. The commissioning of this project marks the completion of key technological advancements by the company in the field of generator cooling and hydrogen supply, resulting in a significant improvement in the inherent safety level of hydrogen production within the facility. The entire hydrogen production system was independently developed and delivered by Dongfang Electric Group. It was designed specifically for the use of hydrogen in cooling generators in thermal power plants, and represents a fully domestically developed PEM hydrogen production system tailored for hydrogen-based cooling applications in Chinese power plants. Compared to traditional hydrogen production processes, this equipment offers significant advantages: it features rapid start-up and shutdown response, a simple operation procedure, and reduced routine maintenance requirements. It can adapt flexibly to the fluctuations in hydrogen demand from generator sets, thereby greatly improving the stability of hydrogen supply within the facility as well as its overall operational efficiency. During the seven-day full-load trial operation, the system’s control logic remained stable and reliable. Key parameters such as hydrogen purity and dew point consistently met the required standards, with the produced hydrogen fully complying with the stringent gas specifications for generator cooling.
