According to Sinochem News, the 100-megawatt concentrated solar power + 800-megawatt photovoltaic integrated project in Dangxiong County, funded by China Energy Engineering Group Investment Company and designed by the Northwest Institute of China Electric Power Engineering, officially commenced construction in Tibet recently. This project is the first solar thermal power project independently invested in by China Energy Engineering Group in Tibet. The project is located in Wumatang Township, Dangxiong County, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region, at an altitude of 4,541 meters; it is one of the highest-altitude solar thermal power plants in the world. The project is planned to have an installed capacity of 900 megawatts, utilizing the 8.6-meter-large-aperture, pure molten salt, trough-type concentration solar heating technology for which China Energy Engineering Group holds independent intellectual property rights. The project is equipped with a 6-hour molten salt heat storage system, which enables continuous power generation at night. It offers excellent peak-shaving capabilities as well as reliable basic power supply support. The photovoltaic section will follow a \"photovoltaics and pastoralism integration\" approach, allowing for the simultaneous development of photovoltaic power generation and ecological livestock farming, thereby fostering both ecological benefits and industrial benefits. Upon completion of the project, it will generate 1.56 billion kWh of green electricity per year, which is equivalent to saving approximately 469,000 tons of standard coal; this in turn will result in a reduction of 1.2512 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
