Recently, we received a document from a client regarding the \"Notice issued by the General Office of the Ministry of Emergency Management on the Publication of the List of Obsolete Hazardous Chemicals Production Processes, Technologies, and Equipment to be Phased Out (First Batch)\\", as attached. Regarding the requirement in this notice that flame monitoring and control systems must be installed on the burners (multiple units) of natural gas-based hydrogen production plants, have any of you implemented such systems in your factories? If so, what are the specific methods used? Is it necessary to implement this according to the control method of each burner (BMS system)?

Regarding Article 5.7.8 of GB50160, it can generally be explained as follows: The converter in a hydrogen production plant is different from ordinary heating furnaces that use fuel gas; hydrogen production furnaces are high-temperature tubular reactors equipped with comprehensive interlock control and safety protection systems. The purpose of installing a pilot light in ordinary heating furnaces is to prevent the flame from going out when the furnace operates at low temperatures. This issue does not apply to converters, as their operating temperature is much higher than that of ordinary heating furnaces. In such high-temperature conditions, a pilot light is likely to get damaged. For converters, if the pilot light is damaged, it becomes even more dangerous, as it can easily lead to an explosion in the converter. There is no safety experience regarding the use of pilot lights in converters, either domestically or abroad. The converter designs of all foreign patent holders do not recommend the use of a pilot light. These are the exact words of industry experts. In my opinion, flame monitors are only necessary during the initial startup phase of hydrogen production, when the temperature in the furnace is very low; during normal operation, with the high temperatures in the furnace, the burners will not go out. However, I couldn’t argue with those experts who came for inspection, so I installed perpetual lamps and flame detectors as well.
