On July 17, Wacker Chemie AG officially put into operation a new next-generation production line at its facility in Bergheim, Germany. This line is used to produce ultra-high-purity polysilicon for use in the semiconductor industry. At the launch ceremony of the new production line, Christian Hartel, CEO of Wacker Chemie, said in Burghausen to 100 guests: “We are the only company in Europe and the largest in the world that produces ultra-pure polysilicon for the semiconductor industry.” The new project enables us to further strengthen our leading position in the global fields of quality and technology. ” With the new production line, Wacker has increased the capacity of its products that meet the highest semiconductor-grade standards by over 50%. This capacity expansion will also create around 150 new jobs. By investing in new semiconductor-grade polysilicon production lines, Wacker aims to double its sales to semiconductor customers by 2030 compared to 2024. As part of the EU’s ‘Important Projects of Common European Interest’ program in the fields of microelectronics and communications technology, the research and development initiatives carried out by Wacker have received funding approvals totaling up to 46 million euros. The funding agencies include the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and the European Union.
