The feasibility study for the 2.5-million-ton ethylene production project at the Lianyungang facility has been completed, and the project has entered the design phase; this early advantage is expected to open up new opportunities for the company’s growth in the future. According to the company’s announcement, Lianyungang Petrochemical Co., Ltd. has recently completed the feasibility study for the first phase of the demonstration industrial park for the comprehensive utilization of 4 million tons of olefins per year, specifically the project for producing 2.5 million tons of ethylene through ethane cracking per year. The official name of this project, as submitted to the relevant regulatory authorities, is the 3.2-million-ton/year comprehensive processing project for light hydrocarbons by Lianyungang Petrochemical Co., Ltd. The engineering design work for both the factory itself and the auxiliary facilities will be carried out by Sinopec Engineering Corporation. At present, China is highly dependent on imports of ethylene, with a gross profit of over 3,000 yuan per ton. Ethylene and its derivatives are among the most profitable products in the chemical industry; once the project is operational, it is expected to become the main source of profit growth for the company in the future. 　　The C3 industry chain is complete, allowing the company to continue reaping benefits from the favorable trends in the propylene and related industries. Currently, the company’s production capacity within the C3 chain includes 450,000 tons of propylene, 300,000 tons of polypropylene, 480,000 tons of acrylic acid, and 450,000 tons of acrylates. Once the new projects at the Pinghu facility are put into operation in 2019, the production capacity will increase to 900,000 tons of propylene, 300,000 tons of polypropylene, 840,000 tons of acrylic acid, 810,000 tons of acrylates, and 220,000 tons of hydrogen peroxide. The production capacity of this company is highly sensitive to fluctuations in the C3 industry chain.
