Overall, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The shop next to it does everything on a outsourced basis; I’m not sure how the two parties work together. Anyway, the situation there is simply horrible to see, though it’s still in operation; P

A real-life example. When outsourcing the maintenance of this equipment, it is indeed necessary to take into account the local resources and the actual conditions of the factory involved; there is no need to adopt a one-size-fits-all approach.

Contractor management has also become increasingly common and diverse in an era of growing specialization. The owner cannot simply rely on outsourcing for management, nor can they maintain strict control at all times and in every situation. In companies with limited human resources and market resources for maintenance, the factory can take charge of equipment operation and maintenance control (i.e., routine inspections + equipment management), thereby avoiding the drawbacks of full outsourcing regarding productivity, safety, continuous improvement, and loss of control over the equipment’s lifecycle. The remaining specific repairs, including some equipment maintenance tasks, are all entrusted to repair service companies.

It depends on the nature of the factory equipment and its operating conditions. If the control system is sound, the manufacturing processes are advanced, there is sufficient flexibility in equipment selection, and corrosion and wear can be controlled (such issues generally do not arise with regular maintenance), then maintenance can be carried out by oneself; specialized teams should be hired only for major repairs. Otherwise, one needs to employ people; where there are people, there are social circles, and where there are social circles, there are disputes. Although management is an art, it is impossible to take everything into account.
