Recently, the automatic control and energy-saving application development project for boiler feedwater treatment at Sinopec Ningxia Energy Chemical Company was put into operation successfully. It not only achieved automation in feedwater treatment but also helped to reduce costs in the production process. The project on automatic control of chemical dosing in thermal power boilers and energy-saving applications represents an important innovative effort by Ningxia Energy Chemical Company in the field of energy conservation and environmental protection. By introducing new environmentally friendly chemicals and intelligent control systems, it enables a greener and more intelligent operation of these boilers, thus opening up new avenues for companies to reduce energy consumption, lower costs, and improve efficiency. The Thermal Power Operation Department of Ningxia Energy Chemical Company is equipped with two ultra-high pressure boilers and two 330MW subcritical generator sets, providing cogeneration services to downstream users. In traditional thermoelectric plant boilers, ammonia water, hydrazine, and phosphate-based treatment processes are used for water treatment. The lag in information and automation technologies, coupled with the dominance of manual operation methods, leads to frequent fluctuations in the parameters related to boiler steam and water as well as in the boiler’s blowdown rate. This not only affects the efficiency of boiler operation but also poses occupational health risks during the manual addition and dissolution of chemicals. In order to actively implement the concept of **green development and to comply with the major strategic decisions regarding energy conservation, emission reduction, as well as achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality, Ningxia Energy Chemical Company, after extensive research and thorough evaluation, launched a project aimed at developing automatic control systems for chemical dosing in thermal power plants and applications for energy savings. Focusing on technological innovation, this project successfully introduced new boiler water treatment agents based on oximes, carbazides, and amine-based organic compounds as their key components. With their non-toxic and environmentally friendly properties, these new agents have successfully replaced traditional ones, eliminating occupational hazards at the work sites and providing a solid safeguard for the occupational health of operators. At the same time, by leveraging advanced online water quality monitoring technologies and DCS automatic control systems, they developed an intelligent management platform for boiler steam and water, which monitors changes in these parameters in real time and automatically adjusts the dosage of chemicals according to preset parameters, thereby ensuring the continuous stability and optimization of the boiler water quality. Compared to traditional manual management methods, intelligent control systems significantly improve the accuracy of management, effectively reducing the adverse effects of water quality fluctuations on boiler operation, thereby providing a solid guarantee for the safe and efficient operation of boilers. “After the project was put into operation, the boiler’s blowdown rate decreased by 23.6% on an annual basis, allowing for the savings of over 2,000 tons of standard coal per year. This reduction led to a significant decrease in the emission of pollutants such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and dust. It not only brought economic benefits to the company but also set a benchmark for the green and intelligent transformation of the industry. ”The project leader explained.
