As the title suggests, if oil is present in the acidic gas at the top of the acidic water stripping tower, what changes will occur in the DCS data of the tower?
Should I use water or oil? Using water lowers the furnace temperature, while using oil raises it; the temperature of the waste boiler increases as well, and the air-fuel ratio goes up
Oil in the overhead vapor stream can cause high pressure and temperature at the tower top
To put it this way, in normal circumstances, the acidic gas at the top of a stripping tower contains hydrocarbons as well as water; it’s rare to find gas that contains only hydrocarbons. The effects resulting from the presence of both water and hydrocarbons in the sulfur combustion furnace are usually that the furnace temperature first drops, before rising sharply again
Acidic gases contain oil and water, and these are generally separated in a liquid separation tank before the furnace. If this separation process is not effective, the contaminants will end up in the combustion furnace. When the amount of such contaminants is small, it can cause significant fluctuations in the furnace temperature; whereas when the amount is large, it may lead to furnace explosion
What symptoms are likely to occur in the combustion furnace of the wet sulfuric acid plant when oil and water are present in the acidic gas stream at the top of the acidic water stripping tower?
The tower top temperature is high; increase the cold feed
The temperature at the top of the stripper is high; after a sharp drop, the furnace temperature rises again
In the case of acidic gas carrying oil, it generally only contains hydrocarbons present in acidic gas (light hydrocarbons); as a result, on the DCS, there may be issues with insufficient air supply and excessively high furnace temperatures.
