The cooling tower fan is an important component of a cooling tower. Although three-parameter probes can provide real-time monitoring of the oil temperature, oil level, and vibration in the reduction gearbox, and they can be connected to the control room where software is used for digital display, over-limit alarms, and automatic shutdown of faulty fans, relying solely on these probes for monitoring represents only a basic approach to overseeing cooling tower fans. By the time an alarm is triggered by the probe, the equipment is usually already in a faulty state; if automatic interlock mechanisms are not in place, the fan will shut down immediately, resulting in disruptions to production. This highlights the importance of fault diagnosis for cooling tower fans.
As long as proper maintenance is carried out in this regard, there is no need to rely on automatic monitoring systems. Most failures of fans are caused by inadequate maintenance, which leads to the accumulation of debris that damages the mechanical seals and results in oil leakage. Mechanical impurities in the bearings can also cause damage to those bearings, and in severe cases, it can lead to the destruction of the reducer. The key is proper maintenance. This compliance is very important regarding the cleanliness on the reverse side after maintenance.
Maintenance is indeed very important, but the aging of mechanical equipment is an inevitable process; it is possible to detect problems early on when there are issues with the reducer.
Equipment aging is a general concept; for this type of equipment, there is basically no issue with aging, unless the gears wear out and prevent it from functioning properly. But at this point, the system equipment is probably also at the end of its useful life :)
The degree of gear wear in reducers can also be classified as early, intermediate, and late stages; this is an indication of equipment aging. It’s impossible to say that equipment does not age – it’s not something that only happens after a certain amount of time has passed. In the early and intermediate stages, it is possible to carry out preventive monitoring to avoid sudden failures that could disrupt production.
In fact, I think the key is to improve the skills of the inspection and maintenance personnel; regular monitoring by professionals and routine inspections pose no problems at all.
