Regarding the extraction distillation process, where the feedstock is reformed C6C7 and the solvent is sulfolane, during operation of the extraction distillation column a so-called two-phase system appears in the extraction section. What exactly does this two-phase system refer to?
In a normal tower, there are two phases: a liquid phase and a gas phase. The liquid phase consists of a mixture of solvent and aromatics, while the gas phase is primarily composed of non-aromatics. However, in practice, some of the non-aromatics can liquefy and end up in the liquid phase, resulting in two liquid phases – one containing the solvent and the other containing the non-aromatics
What are the consequences of a two-phase condition in an extractive distillation column?
I would like to ask whether your triphenyl extraction is carried out through liquid-liquid extraction or distillation? I’m familiar with liquid-liquid extraction; I’ve only heard of distillation and triphenyl extraction, but I’ve never seen it. I’d like to learn about it.
Extractive distillation only involves the extraction of diphenyls (benzene, toluene)
The two phases refer to the solvent-rich phase and the non-aromatic phase, both of which are liquid phases. If it is a three-phase system of gas, liquid, and liquid, then there is the solvent-rich liquid phase, the non-aromatic liquid phase, and the non-aromatic gas phase
