My project is facing this challenge now: the medium in question is aviation kerosene. Centrifugal pumps are usually used for this purpose, but this time it’s required that the pump be able to draw oil out of a tank, having a certain level of self-priming capability. The flow rate needed is 20 L/min, and the pressure requirement is 0.4 Mpa. It’s taken me a long time to choose a suitable pump; does anyone with experience in this area have any suggestions?
Consider self-priming centrifugal pumps or screw pumps; for low flow rates, sliding vane pumps can be considered.
With such a low flow rate, I think it’s better to use a metering pump; however, it would be better to opt for a peristaltic pump with a higher flow rate. Are you pumping oil from an oil tank?
Self-priming centrifugal pumps or screw pumps have relatively high flow rates and larger power requirements. I chose a WYB-80 vane pump; I’m not sure if there are any specific requirements regarding the material of the pump

It’s actually an oil filling device that first draws oil from the oil tank into another tank, and then transfers the oil from that tank to the user. There’s no need for precise measurement – it’s sufficient to fill the target tank. Initially, a metering pump was considered; I contacted several manufacturers of mechanical diaphragm metering pumps. However, such pumps can be easily damaged if the outlet gets blocked during operation. I’ve never used a peristaltic pump, so I’m not sure whether it’s possible to equip it with an explosion-proof motor. In the end, a vane pump was chosen; we’ll see how well it performs in practice
If you consider using a barrel pump, you might as well look it up online.
Plug-in pump is not suitable for our operating conditions. It works fine when filling oil from an oil barrel into the fuel tank of a fueling unit, but it becomes inconvenient to use when transferring oil from the fuel tank of that fueling unit to the customer’s fuel tank. There is an air filter installed on top of the fuel tank of the fueling unit, and the quality of the oil has specific requirements; moreover, a precision filter needs to be connected to the pump’s outlet. Therefore, it is not very appropriate for use in our facility.
Traditional methods include the use of hand pumps.
