I’ve been assigned a project, and the feasibility study only states that a positive-displacement pump should be chosen to address the unloading issues. Could you advise on what factors should be taken into consideration when selecting a specific type of positive-displacement pump?

Well, I consulted with some seniors in the company, who said that it’s best to choose a pump that can handle both gas and liquid flows; they recommended pneumatic diaphragm pumps. However, the project team isn’t considering pumps driven by air sources... I was wondering if centrifugal pumps are prone to cavitation problems in your case?
Cavitation isn’t that serious; there’s no need to make a big deal out of it
Sliding vane pumps are the preferred choice for transporting gas-liquid mixtures, as they have excellent self-priming capabilities. A centrifugal pump can be used, but it is necessary to consider stopping the pump promptly when the inlet liquid level is low; generally, cavitation is not a problem. If a positive-displacement pump such as a gear pump is used, the flow rate is relatively low ; Diaphragm pumps are prone to leakage.
