Someone from a large lubrication company said that a filter is not necessary for the return oil of the feed pump, as they are concerned that clogging of the return oil filter could lead to oil leakage and thus cause the unit to shut down. Has anyone experienced in this field studied it?
It’s best to follow the original design. If there is a fuel station, it should involve large mechanical equipment; typically, such fuel supply stations are equipped with safety features such as hydraulic interlock alarms. If you remove the filter screen, impurities entering the bearing can cause damage. It’s not good.
The return oil filter should have little impact; many gas stations no longer use them, and there are filters in the fuel supply circuit.
Disabling the filter for the supply oil can cause greater damage to the equipment downstream, while disabling the filter for the return oil can cause more harm to the oil pump itself in the fuel station. This can also be seen as a difference between one filter and two filters: when the oil is too dirty, a single filter (either for supply oil only or for return oil only) is more likely to get clogged; proper maintenance is therefore key
It is recommended to remove the oil return filter, as the pipelines need to be flushed with oil at the beginning of the unit’s trial operation. After the flushing is complete, tests are carried out; at that point, the oil inlet filter will do its job. If the oil return filter is reinstalled, there may be too many impurities, which can prevent smooth oil return and may even lead to an increase in the oil level, preventing the oil from returning to the tank. We encountered this issue during our trial production.
