Please tell me, what is this thing next to the water pump bearing called? Is it to prevent water from getting into the bearing? Some people call it a water retaining ring. I wonder if this is also the official name?
The location in the picture is the bearing box shaft seal end cover. Inside is the skeleton oil seal. Prevent oil leakage in the bearing box. It also has the function of preventing mechanical seal leakage from flowing into the bearing box along the axis.
We call this part here an oil retainer.
Different manufacturers have different names.
Dust-proof disks, labyrinth rings, water retaining rings, water retaining rings, bearing isolators, skeleton oil seals, and magnetic oil seals all have different functions and are leak-proof, waterproof, and dust-proof.
