Is there any impact if the C660P dosing pump is installed horizontally? Is it okay to apply engine oil here?

Bluewhite's dosing pump C660P according to their instruction manual, the typical installation method is vertical installation. The construction site is currently installed horizontally. After using it for several months, sometimes the medicine fails to be injected. I need to block the water outlet first, and the water will come out after a while. I don’t know if this is the reason for wearing it horizontally. Does wearing horizontal clothing have any impact? Then there is the second question. The brown ring on the adjustment tooth in this picture looks like rust. There is a bearing in it. Is it okay to add some engine oil for maintenance? Comes with an official instruction manual in English

This is a diaphragm metering pump. Both the inlet and outlet are check valves. The valve core is made of steel balls, ceramic beads or ruby beads. There is no spring in the valve core in the drawing, so it should rely on gravity to keep the valve core in the closed position. The pump should be installed vertically at the inlet and outlet. Horizontal installation cannot ensure that the valve core is in the closed position, so the medicine cannot be injected. The rusted area is used to adjust the dosing speed. As for whether it can be used with engine oil, I can't say since I haven't used it, but applying some engine oil to the rusted area to prevent rust should not be a big problem.
