A noise was heard at the non-driving end of the Sulzer multi-stage centrifugal pump at my workplace a couple of days ago; the medium being transported was crude oil. Suspecting a problem with the thrust bearing, it was opened and replaced; during the replacement process, the seal on the non-drive side leaked, so an alternative seal was installed. After installing the disc pump, crude oil leaks directly from the lowest port of the drive-side mechanical seal. Thus, the drive-end bearing and mechanical seal were replaced. The pump was started up for a trial run; abnormal noises were still present on the non-driving side, while the mechanical seal on the driving side was emitting white vapor and had a high temperature. Which one** can help analyze it

Personally, I think it’s a mounting issue – the end surfaces weren’t cleaned properly and the installation wasn’t done correctly.
There should be no misalignment during maintenance and reinstallation
Could the spring compensation pressure of the mechanical seal be too high?
