The mechanical seal of the centrifugal pump in our unit is leaking severely; water is getting into the bearing box, and the oil needs to be replaced every hour. The oil turns a bit black during replacement. I would like to ask the experts: why does water from the leaking mechanical seal end up in the bearing box? What are the possible reasons for this? And why does the oil turn black?
Are both the mechanical seal and the bearing gland oil seal damaged?
The mechanical seal must be broken; otherwise, there wouldn’t be any leakage. It’s still impossible to determine the status of the oil seal at this point

The medium is gray water, which is quite clean I guess! Temperature around 220
The temperature is really high, right! The temperature of the medium transported by our condensate pump is around 120°C
The seal must be broken; otherwise, there wouldn’t be any leakage. I don’t know what kind of centrifugal pump it is; I wonder if a water seal can be installed on the shaft.
A standard horizontal single-stage centrifugal pump is one of high pressure
A water barrier ring can be installed on the shaft at the location of the oil seal in the bearing housing, pressed tightly against the mechanical seal from the outside; this ring rotates together with the shaft, and the water is thrown away so that it cannot enter the bearing housing.
