The materials of mechanical seals form the foundation upon which they exist and develop. The friction pair resists corrosion from the medium at high speeds, withstands certain pressures, and facilitates heat exchange. Sealing is accomplished under conditions of relative motion and friction; therefore, certain requirements are placed on the materials. 1) It must possess good chemical stability in terms of corrosion resistance, being able to withstand corrosion, abrasion, dissolution, and swelling by the surrounding media ; 2) In terms of physical and mechanical properties, it should have a high elastic modulus, strength, and allowable PV value, a low coefficient of friction and linear expansion coefficient, excellent wear resistance and self-lubricating properties, as well as good impermeability ; 3) In terms of thermal properties, it should have good thermal conductivity, as well as resistance to heat, cold, and sudden temperature changes ; 4) The materials are easily available, simple to process and manufacture, and have low costs.
