China is the world’s largest country in terms of installed solar photovoltaic capacity and solar power generation; it accounts for 36.3% of the world’s total solar photovoltaic capacity and 31.7% of its total solar power generation. According to the BP World Energy Statistical Yearbook, the global installed capacity of solar photovoltaic power in 2021 was 843,086 MW, representing a 19.0% increase compared to 2020. The top 10 countries in terms of solar photovoltaic installation capacity are China (36.3% of the world’s total), the United States (11.1%), Japan (8.8%), Germany (6.9%), India (5.9%), Italy (2.7%), Australia (2.3%), South Korea (2.2%), France (1.7%), and the Netherlands (1.7%). The solar photovoltaic installation capacity of these 10 countries accounts for about 80% of the world’s total. In 2021, the world’s solar power production amounted to 1,032.5 TWh, representing a 22.3% increase compared to 2020. The top ten countries in terms of solar power production are China (31.7% of the world’s total), the United States (16.0%), Japan (8.4%), India (6.6%), Germany (4.7%), Australia (3.0%), Spain (2.6%), Vietnam (2.5%), Italy (2.4%), and South Korea (2.1%). These 10 countries account for 80% of the world’s total solar power production. 5 of them **come from Asia. In 2021, global solar power consumption was 9.73 EJ, representing a 21.9% increase compared to 2020. Of this amount, 5.48 EJ came from the Asia-Pacific region, 1.84 EJ from Europe, 1.72 EJ from North America, 0.35 EJ from Central and South America, 0.16 EJ from Africa, 0.14 EJ from the Middle East, and 0.04 EJ from the CIS.
