Definition of esterification reaction: · An esterification reaction generally refers to the reaction in which an alcohol reacts with a carboxylic acid or an oxygen-containing inorganic acid to produce an ester and water. In industry, esterification is a reaction in which carboxylic acids react with alcohols in the presence of a catalyst to produce carboxylic acid esters. Carboxylic acid esters have wide-ranging applications; they can be used in industries such as coatings, resins, plasticizers, solvents, synthetic lubricants, fragrances, cosmetics, surfactants, and pharmaceuticals. Factors affecting the esterification reaction: 1. Reactivity of alcohols: Methanol > Primary alcohols > Secondary alcohols > Tertiary alcohols > Phenols. 2. Reactivity of carboxylic acids: Formic acid > Straight-chain carboxylic acids > Branched-chain carboxylic acids > Aromatic carboxylic acids. 3. Selection of catalysts: ① Type and structure of the alcohol and acid; ② Esterification temperature; ③ Corrosion resistance of the equipment; ④ Cost; ⑤ Source of the catalyst; ⑥ Ease of separation, etc. Features of TMG 160: * High catalytic activity, comparable to that of monobutyl tin oxide, with fewer side reactions and less by-product formation. * This product is an inorganic tin catalyst that is efficient and environmentally friendly, and meets the ITTC testing standards for organic tin compounds. * It exhibits even better catalytic activity at higher temperatures (220°C–240°C), enabling the production of lighter-colored polyesters. * Using TMG 160 results in lower costs while meeting the requirements for non-organic tin compounds and high catalytic efficiency. * Given the increasingly strict environmental regulations, TMG 160 is the preferred solution for replacing monobutyl tin oxide in order to address the issues associated with organic tin compounds.
