Ansteel CIMC Coke Oven Gas to Hydrogen with Co-production of LNG Project

Ansteel CIMC’s project for producing hydrogen from coke oven gas and simultaneously generating LNG involves an total investment of around 638 million yuan; the facility covers an area of 115,000 square meters. It began operations in September 2024, with an annual production capacity of 15,000 tons of hydrogen. Leveraging Ansteel’s coke oven gas resources, the project produces hydrogen that can be used in hydrogen-based smelting processes and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, while the LNG generated can serve as a substitute for diesel and industrial coal. This project can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 470,000 tons per year; it not only enables the sustainable use of coke oven gas but also provides hydrogen support for the low-carbon transformation of the steel industry. It represents a typical application of the steel-coking-hydrogen model in steel enterprises in the Northeast.
