Recently, the site selection for the Huocheng coal-to-natural gas project was approved by the Autonomous Region’s Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, creating the conditions necessary for the project’s environmental impact assessment and approval process. The project has a construction capacity of 6 billion cubic meters per year; it obtained the necessary approval in March 2013 and is tasked with carrying out two demonstration projects: \"integrated coal chemical, power, and heating systems\" and \"the localization of key equipment.\" The water resources assessment report for the Huocheng coal-to-gas project has been approved. Recently, the water resources assessment report for the China Power Investment Huocheng coal-to-natural gas project received approval from the Yellow River Water Resources Commission under the Ministry of Water Resources; this marks another significant milestone in the preliminary work for this project, following the approvals for the energy efficiency assessment report and the site selection assessment report. To date, the project has completed the preparation of all approval-related documents, with the exception of the approval for the environmental impact assessment report. To secure project approval, the Huocheng Coal-to-Gas Branch took the initiative to step up communication with relevant ministries and commissions sowie various levels of government in the autonomous region, striving for support from multiple parties and making concerted efforts to overcome the approval challenges. In March this year, the **Ministry of Water Resources lifted the restrictions on water resource approvals in Xinjiang, and the Yellow River Water Resources Commission began to consider, on a conditional basis, the evaluation of water resource assessment reports for certain projects in Xinjiang. Thanks to the active coordination of the autonomous region, the Huocheng coal-to-gas project made it onto the list of projects whose water resource assessment reports were to be evaluated, and it passed the evaluation outright, becoming the first industrial project in Xinjiang in 2015 to receive approval for its water resource assessment report.
