Caustic soda discoloration issue

Caustic soda turns black because it contains an excessive amount of nickel; however, recently I’ve encountered cases where it turns gray despite the nickel levels being within normal ranges. I wonder if any of you in Sichuan have come across this phenomenon of caustic soda turning gray – if so, please let me know. I am extremely grateful.
I only know that caustic soda turns yellow when there is an excess of sugar used to reduce sodium chlorate; as for it turning gray, I’m not quite sure
It’s just that too much sugar was used; the sugar got carbonized, and the caustic soda turned black. A total carbon analysis can be conducted in the laboratory to determine this
