What is the purity of dicyclopentadiene used in unsaturated polyesters? Is it high-purity?

The purity of DCPD used in UPR is only 82–89%; its low-molecular-weight impurities are continuously separated from the reaction mixture as water is generated during the esterification reaction. A considerable amount of these low-molecular-weight compounds are removed through vacuum evacuation at the later stages of the reaction. Although DCPD with a lower purity (>82%) can be used to produce UPR, the lower the purity, the greater the environmental pollution it causes, and the darker the color of the product as well. Therefore, the UPR industry still hopes that the purity of the DCPD used can be as high as possible. The DCPD used in Japan for a long time was clear and transparent in appearance, resembling mineral water, with little odor; its technical specifications are shown in Table 1. These standards are not unattainable; it is hoped that domestic DCPD manufacturers will aim for them, strive to improve product quality, and reach or even exceed international advanced levels as soon as possible.
