China Coal’s 500,000-ton coal-to-olefins gasification unit put into operation Author/Source: Date: 2016-07-01 Clicks: 25 On June 27, the No. 9 BGL gasifier of China Coal Ordos Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. was successfully ignited for the first time and brought into operation. Thus, all three BGL gasifiers of the China Coal Ordos Energy and Chemical Project have been completed and put into operation, marking the full completion of the project. The construction and installation project for BGL gasifiers No. 8 to No. 10 is located in the Tuk Industrial Park, Wushen Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. It is the only project to be constructed first as part of the second phase of China Coal Ordos Energy Chemicals project. The physical handover of the project was completed on May 31. The No. 10 and No. 8 gasification furnaces were successfully ignited on June 1 and 22 respectively, and have been operating stably since then. This pilot project will supply syngas for the methanol feedstock synthesis in Mengda New Energy’s 500,000-ton engineering plastics project. The 500,000-ton engineering plastics project of China Coal Mengda New Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. is located in the Wushenzhao Chemical Industry Zone in Wushen Banner, and qualified products will be produced there gradually. On March 18, 2014, China Coal Energy announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, China Coal Ordos Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., planned to invest in the construction of the Tuk Gasification Island and related projects, with an investment amount of around 17.75 billion yuan. This project is the second phase of the China Coal Tuoketuo large-scale fertilizer project, and it supplies syngas for the methanol raw material production in Mengda New Energy’s 500,000-ton engineering plastics project. The project is planned to produce approximately 6.1 billion Nm3 of purified syngas per year (of which 4.1 billion Nm3 per year will be used for methanol synthesis in engineering plastics projects, and 2 billion Nm3 per year will be used as syngas (hydrogen) for the million-ton ammonia synthesis demonstration project), as well as 1 million tons of ammonia per year and 1.75 million tons of urea per year. The project will be implemented in phases, with the construction of 4.1 billion Nm3/year of methanol synthesis gas and related facilities taking place first; the construction period is 36 months. The China Coal Tuoketuo Fertilizer Project is located in the industrial park of Tuoketuo Town, Ordos. It is designed to produce 2 million tons of synthetic ammonia and 3.5 million tons of urea per year, with a total investment of 20 billion yuan; it is currently the largest fertilizer project in the world. The first phase of the project involves an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of synthetic ammonia and 1.75 million tons of urea. On February 1, 2014, the first-phase project of the CMTC Tukuhua Fertilizer Project, which was under the general contract of Wuhuan Company, successfully completed its initial commissioning with feed introduction; the entire production process was operational, and qualified large-grain urea products were manufactured, marking the successful completion and commissioning of the project.
It seems that the coal quality varies from region to region, which in turn leads to different technologies being used; Shenhua Baotou uses slurry coal gasification, while Shenhua Ningxia employs GSP pulverized coal boilers. Then why does China National Coal Group’s Tuketown plant use BGL gasification? The wastewater generated in this process is difficult to treat, and the syngas contains methane as well.
