Article 74 of the Code: Welded austenitic stainless steel or non-ferrous metal pressure vessels generally do not require heat treatment. If heat treatment is necessary due to special requirements, it shall be specified in the drawings.
In situations involving what’s known as intergranular corrosion, is it necessary to carry out processes like solution treatment and stabilization?

Unless the customer or the drawings require heat treatment for the austenitic stainless steel containers, solution treatment is necessary in special operating conditions where the medium has a tendency to corrode the containers. The specifications provide detailed details; it is still necessary to first become familiar with the standards.

In the case of intergranular corrosion, stainless steel requires re-solution heat treatment (if it has been damaged) and stabilization heat treatment.
Stainless steel equipment can also be heat-treated, by strictly controlling the temperature between 300 and 400°C. Heat treatment can reduce welding residual stress.
