Our circulating water is ready for chemical cleaning. The air-cooling tower has not been cleaned since it was put into operation, over three years ago; we plan to take this opportunity to clean the packing as well. Of course, it must be done while ensuring that the air-cooled tower is free of liquid. Our packing is polypropylene Pall rings; the pH is kept around 4. Does this have any impact on the packing, and is it necessary to flush it? ? ?

Do you plan to clean it online? Washing is necessary; we wash it after a year of use, but we do it after the vehicle has been parked. As for the level of pH control, it should be determined based on actual conditions; it is recommended to keep the pH around 5.

Haven’t you washed them? One cleaning pump, one acid circulation tank; the connection is made by flanges: the pump outlet is connected after the flow meter at the chilled water inlet to the tower, while the pump inlet is connected to the acid tank. Disconnect the flange connection hose from in front of the emergency discharge valve of the air-cooled tower and lead it back to the acid tank. I won’t go into too much detail about the specific steps.
Personal suggestions: 1. Perform an inspection before cleaning, especially to check whether there is scaling on the packing above the air inlet; I believe that’s the area where scaling occurs most easily. 2. Stop the system for cleaning whenever possible, to avoid affecting subsequent systems. 3. Carry out cleaning online in intermittent bursts, and monitor the cleaning effect in real time during the process
The quality of our circulating water is not very good; we have had to clean it 3–4 times over the past few years. Cleaning is carried out on both the water-cooled towers and the air-cooled towers. The air-cooled towers are cleaned using weak acids such as aminosulfonic acid, while the water-cooled towers use plastic fillers, for which strong acids are used directly. Of course, corrosion inhibitors are necessary in all cases.
