On the general notes page of the PID diagram, there is a symbol marked as PP on the pipeline; its explanation is \"pipeline personnel protection\". Literally, it means protection for the people working on the pipeline, but it seems a bit awkward or inaccurate. I was wondering if any experienced colleagues could offer some guidance?
PP likely stands for Personnel Protection, which refers to protective measures and is a form of insulation or isolation for pipes/equipment. Since a Pipeline has been added, it refers to protective measures on the pipeline itself, not on the equipment. Under normal circumstances, if the temperature of the pipeline is higher or lower than the temperature to which the human body can be exposed (I’m not sure of the exact values), it is necessary to provide insulation or separation to prevent nearby people from getting burned or frostbitten. The height is generally 2 meters. Insulating this section of pipeline is the most direct approach; however, based on process analysis, if the pipes/equipment do not require insulation, then a cover can be used to prevent direct contact with the pipes. Specifically, you can go to the Process Area -> Piping and Valves section to discuss it.
It’s generally for heat protection; it’s different from insulation.
