What type and model of valve should be installed

Hello everyone, I have a question to ask the experienced teachers here. I have a valve here; to put it more clearly, it’s a cylinder. The on and off of the control button are regulated by a solenoid valve to achieve full open and full closed states. Now I want to control the opening degree of this valve by the duration of pressing the control button; what is the modification plan? Thank you all! They say it can be achieved with a lock valve; I don’t understand. I hope everyone can give me some guidance. It would be best if you could provide an image along with it.
This is not easy to implement; if the cylinder is large enough, adding a PLC might allow for rough control.
Just use a handheld controller to control it, right? The operator terminal outputs 4–20mA, which is used to control the valve opening via a valve positioner. A switch is used to control whether a valve is open or closed; it seems impossible to achieve any arbitrary valve position.
