This method was invented by Canadian International Nickel in 1982. The company’s English abbreviation is INCO; therefore, the sulfur dioxide-air oxidation method is also called the INCO process. The sulfur dioxide-air oxidation method is simple in process, has uncomplicated equipment; its treatment efficiency is generally better than that of the chlorine oxidation method (ignoring the toxicity of sulfur **); the reagents required are readily available, the treatment costs are not high, and the investment required is low.
