Due to the explosion that occurred in Tianjin, there have been many inspection teams visiting our factory recently. Last week, a safety expert came to inspect our facility; through the sight glass on the water seal device, it appeared that there was no water in the seal. We explained to him that the visibility was poor due to scale buildup inside the sight glass, and that the water level could be seen clearly through another sight glass at the same height. He still claimed there was no overflow and suggested adding water to see if there would be immediate overflow. We pointed to the overflow outlet and explained that since gas contained condensed water which entered the water seal, and no additional water was added usually, there was still overflow, though it was just dripping slowly (it was possible to see water dripping from the overflow outlet at a rate of about 1 drop per second). The expert then asked us to show him any records related to the inspection of the overflow situation. To be honest, we usually just observed the dripping water during overflow and checked the water level through the sight glass; we really didn’t have any such records.
