When designing the pressure relief pipeline for the lock hopper, design institutes generally provide two discharge directions: ① to the lock hopper flushing water tank; ② to the slag tank. Have you considered the advantages and disadvantages of these two setup methods?
That pressure relief to the slag pool is used when the pressure in the lock hopper cannot be relieved, or during maintenance; actually, that pathway isn’t needed! Just go to the path that leads to the lockbox and flushing tank.
Personally, I think it’s smoother to go through the lock hopper, because the pressure is released by venting the steam from the upper part of the lock hopper, so it’s better for that steam to flow towards the lock hopper. :)
The advantage of using a lockbox to flush the water tank is that the pressure-relieving gas can be cleaned by the flushing water, while the exhaust gas can be directed to an appropriate location for release. This is especially useful when the coal contains high levels of sulfur; by releasing the acidic gas from a higher position, the unpleasant odor similar to that of rotten eggs in the slag pool is reduced.
Both of these designs are used in practice, and neither presents any issues during operation; it is necessary to conduct a comparison. The design with a flushing water tank for the lock hopper is more reasonable, and it has been adopted quite frequently in recent years. This type of tank is a closed container equipped with a vent at the highest point, which enhances its safety.
There are also those that go to vacuum flash evaporation, but it’s rare.
