A strange phenomenon has been observed: many horizontal centrifugal pumps require seal flushing, while it is quite rare to see vertical pipeline pumps that require seal cooling flushing. There is another phenomenon: the horizontal centrifugal pumps used in refrigeration units to circulate the refrigerant come equipped with self-flushing mechanical seals. When a different horizontal centrifugal pump was used, no such seal flushing function was available, and the pump started leaking after being used for a while; however, the problem disappeared after switching to a pipeline pump. Isn’t it strange?
In the past, we had few pumps with sealed flushing; nowadays, those equipped with flushing functions are mainly alkali pumps, liquefied gas pumps, and sewage pumps.
It mainly depends on the medium being transported; for example, impurity pumps and slurry pumps need to be flushed, while clean water pumps rarely require flushing
It’s cooled down. The horizontal pump that was just installed in our workshop started leaking at the seal within less than 5 minutes of operation; we replaced it with a vertical pipeline pump, which has been working fine ever since. The material is antifreeze, free of impurity particles
