The process gas in converter furnaces contains various combustion components such as methane, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide. Is hydrogen the first to burn at the top? What is the reason?
Although the amount is small, its calorific value is low; it’s best to use natural gas
Hydrogen is the most reactive of all gases; remember that its combustion time is just a few thousandths of a second. Also, in the mixture fed into the converter, the hydrogen concentration is the highest, so it’s certain that hydrogen is the main fuel used.
At the top, hydrogen burns first because it is flammable and burns rapidly.
Combustion occurs first with hydrogen, mainly because hydrogen has a low energy barrier, its molecules are more reactive, and thus the reaction rate is fast!
