When I was responsible for instrument management and maintenance in a factory, I often encountered situations where, when the instruments were measuring low flow rates or values close to the minimum, the measurement signals would experience significant fluctuations. As a result, the same instrument would trigger alarms repeatedly, which disrupted the operations of the operators. To address this issue, I would set a delay in the field transmitters or the DCS system, or implement a mechanism to disregard readings at low flow rates – usually 5% of the normal flow rate or a delay of around 5 seconds. This basically does not affect operations and production, while reducing process alarms.
