What are the characteristics of chemical wastewater?
Chemical wastewater pollution has the following characteristics: 1. Toxicity and irritancy. Some chemical wastewater contains toxic or hazardous substances such as cyanide, phenols, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, or lead, which can have toxic effects on organisms and microorganisms at certain concentrations. It may also contain irritating and corrosive substances such as inorganic acids and bases. 2. High organic matter concentration. In particular, petrochemical wastewater contains high concentrations of various organic substances such as organic acids, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, and epoxides. There are relatively high levels of nutrient-rich substances. Wastewater with high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen can cause eutrophication of water bodies, leading to an excessive growth of algae and microorganisms; in severe cases, this can result in red tides that affect fish growth. 5. Recovery is relatively difficult. It is quite difficult to restore waters contaminated by harmful substances to their original state. Heavy metals, especially those concentrated by microorganisms, remain difficult to eliminate even after stopping emissions
